Teens Senior Picture Banned

So, the teaser to this article was "Students were told to pose with a prop of their choice...".  I immediately, thought, "Oh Boy, What on Earth did she bring?"  Then, I open the article to find out that she brought her son as her prop to "represent her and helped her achieve something".  You can read the full article here.

Most of the time when I read an article about a school banning something, I disagree with the school.  However, in this case, I am completing in agreement with the school.  What is this girl thinking?  There are so many things wrong with her decision to use her son as a "prop".

Number 1, her child should not be a "prop".

Number 2, the rest of her life is going to be about her son.  She should make her Senior picture about her.  Surely, there is something else that represents her.  If she can't think of anything, then it means that unfortunately, she has probably fallen into that trap that many high school girls fall into.  During the time when they should be discovering who they are, they are all about their boyfriend and are losing themselves and not developing as an individual.

Number 3, I wouldn't say that she is promoting teen pregnancy.  But, having your a baby in a high school yearbook certainly isn't promoting or representing what high school is supposed to be about.

Bottom line is, I think the principal handled it crappy by passing the blame to the yearbook editor.  But, I think the school board handled it perfectly by stating that "family members" are not allowed in that part of the yearbook.  If she wants her son in the yearbook, she can put him in the proper section with everyone else. and leave the portraits to the students!
